Accountingtips for you is a blog I created to track articles related to Accounting.  My Name is Mike Harmon.  I’m working on becomming a CPA.  While researching the Internet I couldn’t find a good source where I could get information about Accounting Principles.  That’s why I started this blog.

People who write about accounting send me their articles and I post them on this site.  I think it’s a great resource for people like myself who need good information about General Accounting.  Hopefully you enjoy the site also.

    Looking forward to reading more as well. Good luck on your goal of becoming a CPA. I just passed the Auditing section a few months ago myself, and have Regulation coming up in a few weeks. I’ll be sooooo happy to have this behind me in a few months, but it will be well worth it.

    For Ann Robinson: Yes, if you have any income at all, you are required to report that income, and if sufficient, pay all applicable taxes on that income.

    If you are selling a product or services, you may also be required to collect and pay sales tax to your state or to the state that the customer lives in.

    Whether the government will come after you for not reporting income is another thing. If you wish to, for example, obtain a loan using income from your web based business, then you will be required to produce income tax returns, particularly federal income tax returns.

    Hey Mike,

    Just wanted to drop by and say thanks for coming by my blog as well. Just as an aside - I used to work for PwC - but on the consulting side versus accounting. While I did my pre-req ACC1 and ACC2 in college - never really did quite get in to the groove of it. But, it did help me to learn to do my own taxes! Excellent blog - I wish you much success!
